Identify the community and side of the island
Share the town, community or ZIP and explain the exact location when you discuss the move. If goods are split between a residence and storage, name both locations. Ask how the provider plans collection for those addresses rather than assuming a standard island-wide arrangement.
Include any distance or access detail the provider requests for the proposed pickup logistics. Let the provider confirm the operational plan from your actual location.
Describe roads, gates and turning space
Mention private-road conditions, driveway grades, narrow turns and where a vehicle can safely stop. Explain the carry from that point to the home. Photos and dimensions can make unusual access easier to discuss.
If you need permission to use a shared approach or open a gate, arrange that with the property contact. Confirm the plan with the provider before pickup day.
Inventory more than the main living rooms
Add workshop, garage, lanai and storage contents to the list. Flag oversized equipment and any items for which acceptance or preparation needs confirmation. Decide what to sell or donate before the final inventory review, then update the provider if quantities change.
Ask how the pickup connects onward
Request an explanation of collection, handling, any storage and onward transportation responsibilities. Ask who issues updates and what documents you should keep after pickup. A clear chain of contacts is more useful than guessing a transport route from the nearest place on a map.
Prepare the mainland receiving side
Choose your destination guide and describe the new home’s access, the earliest receiving date and any temporary housing gap. If you are still looking for a home, share the city or ZIP you expect and explain what is undecided.
Start with California, Texas or Washington, or explore every launch destination in the Departure Atlas.
Before accepting a proposal
- Does it include pickup from every address I have described?
- Who provides packing, access-related labor and each subsequent handoff?
- What changes if inventory, timing or my receiving address changes?
Keep your next step simple.
Share your route, approximate date and move size. Add the access or timing detail that matters most, and use the provider conversation to fill in the rest.
